What happens to my domain if I downgrade?

How custom domains behave when you change to a plan that does not include them.

Custom domains are part of PRO and Enterprise. If you switch to a plan without that feature, here's what we do:

Day 0 — downgrade

We email you the moment your subscription updates and add a banner to your dashboard:

Your domain yourname.com stops working on March 22 unless you upgrade.

Your domain keeps serving normally during this 14-day grace period. Visitors won't see anything change.

Day 14 — pause

If you haven't upgraded by then, we pause the domain. Visitors who go to yourname.com see a brief "site temporarily unavailable" page; we 301-redirect them to zebrasnap.com/your-username so links you've shared on social or in emails still take people to your photos.

We email you when the pause kicks in.

Re-upgrading

The moment you re-subscribe to a plan with custom domains included, we reactivate your domain. No re-verification, no re-pointing — it just comes back. You'll get an email when it's live.

If you bought the domain through us

The domain is yours. If you cancel for good, your auto-renewal is paused at our registrar after another grace period. You can:

  • Transfer the domain out to another registrar (we provide the EPP code on request).
  • Let it expire if you no longer want it.

We email you each time the auto-renewal date approaches so nothing happens by surprise.
